The Beginning

PGR was established in 1984 as a family business, working out of a singular unit in Laindon, Essex, cutting timber to order for customers in the local area.

Since its incorporation, we have seen substantial growth and expansion, now operating from multiple sites throughout the Essex and Surrey area.

Being sizeable, whilst remaining as a family business, allows us to offer customers a professional and knowledgeable approach whilst retaining the core values of personal service through the experience that has resulted in the success of the business.

Our Staff

The key to our success has been the staff employed with the company. As a result of the extensive training that our staff undergo coupled with our personal approach that we adopt, we have fantastic staff retention. This results in two-fold happening, firstly we have a fantastic array of staff that have been with the company for multiple years, bringing consistency as well as knowledge and experience to our customers.

Secondly, the Management Trainee Programme that we employ results in a number of younger staff members coming through the business, retaining the knowledge of our more experienced employees, to continue the progression of the business whilst retaining the high standards that our customers expect.

How We Operate

Health & Safety is an extremely important part of our business and is at the forefront of every single PGR operation. We adopt a best practice approach, exceeding the minimum standards expected, to ensure the safety of our staff, customers, and any visitors to our sites or when our vehicles are offloading.

Our extensive fleet includes multiple types of vehicles; from transit vans, lorry mounted cranes all the way to our specialist Loft Lifter vehicles, allowing versatility with our deliveries in order to best suit our customers’ needs and within the time frames required.

Our highly specialised Loft Lifters offer the complete loft conversion service. We are able to deliver all your materials directly to the roof, whether it is insulation, steel or timbers - our high extending crane can deliver all in one go to the most inaccessible places.

Our Products

Our relationship with the Builders Merchant Federation (BMF), along with our association with the National Buying Group (NBG) and the National Merchants Buying Society (NMBS) provides us with the buying power to compete with the National Builders Merchants and allows us to keep our prices extremely competitive.

All branches stock a vast range of building materials from bulk products such as aggregates, blocks, bricks and lintels, to landscaping products and small essential items such as chemicals and tools.

In line with PGR’s environmental policy, all branches have achieved full FSC® and PEFC chain of custody certification which ensures our timber and sheet materials have been produced from well-managed forests and are sourced responsibly. Quality is high on the priority list for our timber products, whilst retaining competitive pricing, which is why the majority of our timbers are stored under cover away from the elements. We also offer a timber cutting service at our Rayleigh and Romford branches.

Helping Our Customers

We have supplier showrooms at both our Rayleigh and Egham branches, displaying a range of products including, Millboard Decking, HardiePlank Cladding, Porcelain Paving, sample brick panels and more. Our showrooms enable our customers to fully visualise their thoughts as they can see the products in situ rather than in a brochure, helping them to bring their vision to life.

For larger or more diverse projects, our dedicated Sales Office team offer our customers a service from start to finish, everything from plan take-offs, down to the finishing details to truly help our customers realise their ambitions. Their years of experience allows them to carry out brick matches to ensure that new and old go together seamlessly as well as dealings in a variety of sectors allowing even the most obscure items to be sourced and purchased.
