What is the difference between feather edge and waney lap fencing?
Waney lap panels are made from thin, horizontally overlapping rough-sawn slats, making them a very affordable, rustic-looking option for those looking to reduce costs. Feather edge panels (also known as closeboard) are much stronger and more robust. They are constructed using thick, vertically overlapping timber boards fixed to heavy-duty horizontal framing rails behind them, making them significantly more durable and wind-resistant than waney lap.
Should I use concrete or timber fence posts?
Timber posts offer a seamless, natural look that blends perfectly with the wooden fence panels and they are cheaper to buy initially. However, because they sit in the damp earth, timber posts will eventually succumb to rot over time. Concrete posts are heavier and more expensive, but they are a long-term investment; they are incredibly strong, require zero maintenance, will not rot, and will usually last over 25 years.
What is Postcrete / Postfix used for?
Postcrete (or post-fixing mix) is a ready-to-use, rapid-setting cement mixture designed specifically for securing timber, metal, or concrete fence posts securely into the ground. You simply dig the hole, place the post inside, fill the hole with water, and pour the dry postcrete straight from the bag. The mixture hardens incredibly fast, locking the post solid within just 5 to 10 minutes.
Is it worth investing in composite fencing?
Yes, if you want a fence that requires minimal upkeep over its lifetime. While composite fencing is noticeably more expensive than timber to buy initially, it is an extremely low-maintenance option. It will not rot, warp, or splinter, and you never have to spend your summers painting or staining it. For maintenance, a composite fence only requires an occasional wipe-down with warm, soapy water to keep it looking pristine.
Do you sell everything for a full fencing project?
